I’m not really sure how I landed in surface pattern design. It’s something that I love doing and always fascinating to me how you can take a one creative application and turn it into a ton of different types of patterns.
It’s even more fun when I put something on Spoonflower and someone buys it - I always wonder how they are using it.
So when I decided I needed to do a little creating lately I turned to my iPad to do some sketching. My process for creating patterns can be anything from painting in watercolor to sketching something out on my iPad. Then I scan or convert the design into a graphic that then I manipulate in Adobe Illustrator.
Today, my inspiration was this pattern by Sarah Sherman Samuel and this pattern from a dress I recently purchased from Farm Rio.
I’m not done yet, but I’m loving the direction of both and can see them in several applications. Curious, do you see these in home decor items, clothes, textiles, or something else?
